It's stunning and bittersweet to say, but this year's VBS has come and gone. The theme, "Following in His Footsteps", let the kids take a look at how missionaries (some tied directly to our church) in countries like Nepal, Japan, Mongolia and China, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and even the United States share the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ and the offer of salvation in Him. They learned about the diverse ministries that allow missionaries to help satisfy the physical needs of the people in these countries even as they share the Gospel.
The memory verse for the week was Romans 10:9 : "if you confess with your mouth,"Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Click to see the full passage) Every night this verse was reinforced by a story from the Bible, music, crafts, and recreations. The kids were served a warm dinner before VBS started each night and a snack during their mission time.
In all 42 kids were registered for this year and came for the food, fun, and chance to learn more about the Savior Who loves them. The catchy songs, fun memories, and impactful lessons from God's Word will definitely stay with us all; as will the challenge brought to us all: that all believers are to be missionaries, whether afar or simply in our own homes and neighborhoods. The important thing is to share the good news that Jesus Christ came to die for our sins, rose again, and wants save us all. His love is for everyone and something to be excited about! Please keep all the kids who attended in your prayers, as well as their families, that their time here will lead to a lifelong relationship to with the Lord Jesus Christ and a desire to take what they've learned and show others how to follow in His footsteps!
